Beckham canadian CBC interview, august 2007:

In other "news", there's not much really in anticipation of tomorrow's match, some are trying to speculate what Capello will be doing, the Mirror seems to predict he will favor Theo Walcott to start instead of David Beckham saying that he wants to keep Beckham "fresh" for the match VS Croatia on Wednesday. It's all just pure speculation but we are all excited to see the match tomorrow. I will try to post viewing options if Dina isn't available to do so - but I'm not as knowledgeable as she is. If anyone has any online viewing options to share, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, the DBFO fan "Odiatis" recently got a Beckham tattoo and sent in a picture. I am posting it in the gallery as requested, you can see it here.

David's latest blog post

Here's his latest blog post:

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all well?
As you know Bruce Arena is now in charge at the Galaxy and I played my first game under him last week against New England Revolution. We drew the game, but he is definitely getting his ideas across to the players already. He works us hard in training to ensure we understand exactly what he expects on the pitch. It’s not going to happen overnight, but the signs are there and we’re all behind the manager. Things are looking very positive for the future.

I’m currently training with the England squad ahead of our first two World Cup qualifying games against Andorra and Croatia. We’ve only played friendlies under Fabio Capello so far, so these will be our first competitive matches since he took over, and we are all looking forward to them. I must also add my congratulations to John Terry on being awarded the England captaincy. He is a great player and a great defender who leads by example and so it’s fantastic to see him retain the captain’s armband. All the England squad are delighted for JT and can’t wait to get on with the serious business of qualifying for the World Cup.

That’s all for now,

Take care,

David

Nothing much on the news side other than little gossip stories about how David is afraid to go bald and become fat ( who isn't lol ) and how he help Tom Cruise with a diet to help him shed some extra weight. These stories have been surfacing for about a week now. I won't go into details but if you'd like me to, do let me know and I will post up a "gossip" update hehe :)

In the meantime, here are some more old videos for your enjoyment. Let me know what you think, do you like these? Should I continue posting them?

David trains with England squad!

( source ) ( source ) Once again in a move that shows that he doesn't cave to external pressure or follow others opinions and instead does what his own research discovers and what he thinks is best for the team, coach Capello named David Beckham as part of his 23 man squad for the first world cup qualifiers match in Andorra.

The Andorra match takes place at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona on Saturday 6th September, whilst the Croatia tie will be played at the Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb the following Wednesday evening. If David plays he will win his 104th and 105th caps, equalling Billy Wright’s 105-cap haul! Go David!

The full squad: Robert Green (West Ham), David James (Portsmouth), Paul Robinson (Blackburn); Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester Utd), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), John Terry (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Manchester Utd), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Matthew Upson (West Ham); Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), David Beckham (LA Galaxy), David Bentley (Tottenham), Jimmy Bullard (Fulham), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Frank Lampard (Chelsea); Jermain Defoe (Portsmouth), Emile Heskey (Wigan), Wayne Rooney (Manchester Utd), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

David was with the squad this afternoon practicing in England. There are some pictures in the gallery, here.

Congrats to David! Hope he plays all the matches!

Happy Birthday Romeo

Thanks Lory for reminding us of Romeo's Birthday yesterday. Happy birthday to him from all the DBFOers :) . He turned 6 already :)

David speaks about draw to New England Revolution

David had the following to say about their match against the New England Revolution:

"It was a good game of soccer tonight. Both teams had good plays,” he said. “We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew coming here it's always a difficult opponent to come up against. We played some good football ourselves as a team and we stuck together as a team. We'll take the draw, but we felt we deserved to win. But I'm biased."

He also had special praise for Landon:

"Everybody knows Landon is a great goal scorer. It's what he does. It's what he's done his whole career. It's what he'll carry on doing, because he's very talented. If you give him the ball in the right places, he'll score 99 percent of the time. Tonight was a good night for him, because he had two chances and he put them both away.”

He was also pleased with the team's effort after several poor results over the past few weeks:

“This last week has been a week of training hard and doing things that we should be doing. Tonight is the first step of getting us back on the right road. I've always said we have the right players and the right team; it's just a case of getting the confidence and getting the level up. And tonight was a step forward without a doubt, a few steps forward. As a team, we stuck together, which we haven't had the last few months."

We know the L.A. Galaxy fans out there are probably frustrated about losing David to the England squad for a while but we wish the Galaxy the best of luck and to continue their nice efforts and turn this winless streak right around and start winning some matches!

L.A. Galaxy 2 - 2 New-Enland Revolution

( source ) ( source ) Landon Donovan's impressive 2 goals weren't enough to secure a win as Revolution's Shalrie Joseph scored his first goal to salvage a tie for his team. The match took place at the Gillette stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Again, still better than a loss but extending the team's winless streak to 10 (0-5-5). Let's hope their next match against Real Salt Lake in L.A. will break the streak and give the team much needed boost in morale.

On a more positive note, the match of yesterday was the largest regular-season single-game crowd the Gillette stadium ever saw for the Revolution. David may have very well been the attraction to have caused this as it was his first match in New England in his 2 season with the MLS. He came to Foxborough last year but was injured and couldn't play the match.

Here's a video of the traffic at the stadium! That's a lot of cars :)

David's comments on the atmosphere:
"[Last night] was a special night," Beckham said. "A couple of players were mentioning it's a great atmosphere to play in. It's a great sporting arena, and it's nice to play in front of so many fans. So thank you to them for turning out and I hope they do it every time we play here. It makes you feel good and makes you want to play better."

Here's a fan's video of "the wave" happening in the Stadium to give you an idea of the atmosphere. I like videos from the fans' perspective like that, doesn't it make you feel like you're there :)

( source ) It was also interesting for David to play coach Steve Nicol's team. Steve Nicol was a player that David grew up watching in England. Nicol wasn’t one of Beckham’s favorite players after he played an integral role on the Liverpool teams that dominated English soccer during the 1980s and left Beckham’s favorite team frustrated more often than not.

Things have changed since then. After playing under Nicol in Toronto for the MLS All-Star match however, Beckham came back impressed and with nothing but respect for the coach.

Before the match, David said:
“When he was a player, I didn’t like him because I was a Manchester United fan,” “It’ll be nice to see him again tomorrow. He’s a very good coach and he’s done great here.” “They have a good team and good individuals. It’s going to be tough for us.”

Here's some highlights, in what seems like Spanish but that's all I could find :)

Update: Here's another find, in english and better. Can clearly see David's very nice free kick at the end.

Here are the pictures in the Gallery.

Capello: Beckham isn't untouchable
( source ) After the chatter in the news over the last week that talked as to wheter David shouldbe dropped from the England squad, Capello responded with concern after questions have been asked about Beckham's physical condition and his busy cross-Atlantic schedule.

"No one is untouchable. Not Beckham, the captain or the vice-captain," the Italian tactician said in News of the World.

"Against the Czechs, Beckham ran as much as the other players, maybe a little bit more. Sometimes Beckham is very dangerous but against the Czech Republic he did not do anything amazing. "I will look at all the travel. I check everything. The last match was a friendly game, the next one is qualification for the World Cup so I will look at his schedule. He has travelled a lot. It is interesting."

We all know that Capello isn't the most influenced by what others think however and he is likely to based his decision on David's true capabilities and we've seen how he rises to such challenges in the past so my money is on him rising up to the challenge once again and showing what he is capable of and silencing the naysayers once more.

BECKHAM: LONDON WILL TOP BEIJING
David Beckham believes the London Olympics in 2012 will be even better than the spectacular events seen at the Beijing Games. [...]

Beckham said: "I was so honoured to be asked and I'm so excited to be alongside such talente people.

"I'm an East End boy and I'm proud that it's happening in London. I was very proud to involved in the first place bringing it back to England and to London. It's going to generate so much interest in sport and kids are already getting excited about it.

"We have seen what the Chinese have done here and I'm sure we will better that, without a doubt."

Beckham, who went to the Bird's Nest stadium to watch the final night of the athletics, said he had been hugely impressed by the British athletes.

He added: "I was lucky enough to be back in London last week and had a lot of spare time in the hotel so I was watching the Olympics all day. It was great to see, the cycling was so impressive and it was great for Chris Hoy to have achieved what he did.

"It's nice to see many people getting so emotional about winning medals and it makes you proud to be British.

"It has been a great Games so far."

Beckham hopes Beijing gold rush will inspire kids to embrace sports
Football icon David Beckham hopes that Britain’’s huge medal haul at the Beijing Olympics will inspire youngsters to bring laurels to the country in 2012.

East London born Beckham, 33, is passionate that his home country should enjoy a rich legacy in sports facilities from the Olympics.

According to the Mirror, Beckham hoped that the 19 gold medals won by British players would lead to more of the capital’’s youngsters wanting to be part of the London games.

“That sort of success always generates kids wanting to do sport and to do well, said the England and LA Galaxy star.

Beckham also said that the success of the British Olympians would definitely lead to more kids getting involved in sports.

“I believe kids are already getting ready for 2012 and want to be involved in it, said the football superstar.

David Beckham helps Tom Cruise diet
This one's for the Gossip Girls!

When Tom Cruise wanted to lose weight he knew exactly who to turn to – good mate David Beckham.

The actor, 46, has piled on the pounds over the past year and wanted to get rid of his spare tyre.

‘Tom had been steadily gaining weight,’ a source tells The Mail On Sunday. ‘He hated it when pictures started appearing of him with a belly and love handles. Tom has a private gym at his home and David has been working out with him.’

Tom has already lost 10lb since following 33-year-old Becks' diet and exercise regime.

Berkshire violinist adds string to her bow
This is the story of the violinist who played next to Becks on the double decker bus at the closing ceremony of the Olympics. It's not Becks news, but it's heartwarming, and I thought for human interest you might like to read it.

She adds that performing with Page, Lewis and Beckham was like a dream come true.

"I'm such a fan of all three of them. It was just incredible." [...]

"I couldn't ever really comprehend the scale of the event. I just had to do a job and be as professional as I could be.

"Before the performance all of us were shaking with nerves," she reveals, "but David Beckham helped calm me down a little bit and we stepped out for a little bit of fresh air."

It obviously did the trick, for she adds: "When we actually got out and performed I didn't worry about all the cameras.

David Beckham's Free Kicks
This is a lovely compilation video of many of David's wonderful free kicks. It's not newsworthy, it's just for fun. Once in a while it's nice to look back...

David Blogs

Here's his latest blog post (by the way, he denies the car crash allegations himself here ;) ):

Hi everyone,

I was really honoured to be part of the handover ceremony on Sunday in Beijing. I’m a keen supporter of the Olympics coming to London; it will have an incredible impact on the East End of London and the British will embrace the event and show how much passion they have for sport. As I’ve said many times, we deserve a global event on this scale in our country.

The Beijing Olympics were about the great sporting moments and the Great Britain team exceeded all expectations. To finish fourth in the medal table and take home so many medals was amazing and they can all be very proud of themselves. This sort of success always encourages kids to take up sport and do well and many are already getting ready for 2012 and want to be involved in it. I was also lucky to see the US play Spain in the basketball final, I’m pleased for my friend Kobe who wanted so much to win gold for his country. I was impressed with Spain, they never gave up, but the US probably deserved to win over the length of the tournament.

I know a lot has been written about the England game last week but we as a team are focused on the upcoming World Cup qualifying games and performing well, we are confident we can get the right results against Andorra and Croatia. Due to the England game, I missed Bruce Arena’s first match in charge of the Galaxy and unfortunately we lost 1-0. We are determined to get it right and we are working hard to turn things around. We are looking forward to our next game against the New England Revolution on Saturday.

On another note, I know many of you would have been concerned to read about a supposed car crash involving me and Victoria. I want to assure everyone there never was any crash at any time; our car had been dented many days before whilst vacant in a car park.

That’s all for now and thanks, as always, for your support.

Take care,

David

Victoria's Rep Denies David & Victoria being in Car Crash

(source) Thanks to Laurance for providing this Yahoo article, I had come across a few stories already mentioning this but hesitated to post it here as they all seem "gossip" sources.

One would think that if yahoo posts it, then it adds a bit of credibility - However I just saw that Victoria's Rep denies the claims. "There was no car crash," Cheryl Maisel told the New York Daily News "David and Victoria Beckham were driving a car that had been scratched the day before when it had been left parked at the airport - they were not involved in any accident at all. There was no police, no crash, no paparazzi chase, etc. - just very incorrect reports via Internet gossip sites," she said.

The Original story posted on several dozen sites today was:

David and Vitoria were on their way to the airport of Nice so that David could catch his flight to China last Friday August 22nd, the car hit a security rail on the highway, making the windshield of the black BMW they were driving explode in pieces and smashing the side of the car pretty well. Thankfully no one was hurt but Victoria was understandably shook up.
David was late to catch his flight so he had to run to the airport and leaving Victoria in shock in the car, not before kissing her goodbye and comforting her.

More Olympics pictures

Little update on the pictures side, I just added 28 new pictures to the Olympic album here. Some of these new ones are nice pictures so you might want to check them out of you already checked this album previously.

David in Beijing

It doesn't seem like the closing ceremonies were available live here on TV in Canada (I only see it being aired in another 6 hours), not sure if you guys in the US got to see it live but here are some pictures. I also got a video from it from the site Victoria Beckham blog though I'm not sure if it will stay up, I actually searched on youtube first but it seems NBC is knocking them down for copyright... maybe this one is within acceptable length, anyways here it is hope you get to see it and it doesn't get removed:

Also, while David was in Beijing, we can see him in an interview here (he's in the first part of the clip):

Another interview posted by the Victoria Beckham blog:

Also found some pictures of him enjoying some of the Olympics games, here are the pics in the gallery. Also photos with Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page before they stared in the closing ceremonies here. (these last pictures are really nice)
